New Delhi, India — September 25th, 2025 — Surface Moto, an IIT-Delhi backed consumer micro-mobility startup, has completed its first batch deliveries of the Surface C1, the company’s debut e-bike custom-designed for a non-car urban future.
The first batch was intentionally small and highly controlled — deployed to an early cohort of customers across 2 cities. Together, the current batch has logged more than 5,000 kms on-road, producing detailed feedback that has already led to several targeted engineering refinements.
Early survey results underline rider enthusiasm, with the C1 earning an average rating of 4.2 out of 5, with design, comfort, and handling as standout strengths. Notably, 75% of riders highlighted braking as a key advantage.
“The Surface C1 is widely praised for its performance, handling, and ride comfort — and we are now making it even better.” shared Syed Shahabaz, Founder & CEO of Surface Moto. “With a patented double-sided chassis and our Adaptive Foam saddles, the new Surface C1 delivers an urban riding experience that we believe more customers will love.”
Each unit passed through a 28-step QA/QC process at Surface Moto’s facility before reaching customers. With the first deliveries complete, the company is preparing a refined batch of final units for reviewer testing and media rides before reopening pre-orders.
With 350+ customers already on the waitlist, Surface Moto is seeing strong early adoption — underscoring the urgent need for a new class of urban commuting: trips too long to walk yet too short for cars.
“To reach more customers, we are preparing to open our first round of external funding early next year,” added Syed Shahabaz. “This will allow us to complete a full launch, deploy our app, scale production, and continue innovating our product stack.”
By 2027, Surface Moto plans to deliver 1,000+ units across 2 cities projecting to cross approximately ₹8 crore in revenue. Over the next three years, the company aims to expand to 3 cities and capture 8–10% of India’s electric bicycle market. Focusing on a direct-to-customer distribution model, Surface intends to maintain positive unit economics while delivering an exceptional buying experience.
Globally, the e-bike market was valued at approximately $60 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $100 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 11%. In India, though still nascent, the market surpassed ₹200 crores in revenue last fiscal and is expected to multiply this year, highlighting a clear opportunity for Surface Moto’.
While current deliveries remain limited to pre-order customers, Surface continues to keep its waitlist open. Customers can sign up to be among the first to pre-order the C1.
